📅 Itinerary overview

Early departure from your hotel in Djerba or Zarzis. Crossing via the Roman causeway of El Kantara (historic 7 km road built by the Romans in the 3rd century, faster than the ferry). Coffee break at Médenine, then arrival in Tataouine, the historic capital of the Southern Berbers.

First highlight: guided tour of Ksar Ouled Soltane, this masterpiece of 12th-century architecture with its ghorfas tiered across 4 levels. These "fortified granaries" were used to store cereals for the entire community against raiders — an ingenious system that has stood for 900 years. Exceptional photos in the inner courtyard (ancient jars, palm trees, ochre shadows).

Ascent to Chenini, the wonderful hilltop village perched at 600 m altitude. Guided visit to the white Mosque of the Seven Sleepers, a fascinating legend of 7 saints said to have slept 400 years in a cave before waking. Breathtaking panoramic views over the Dahar valley, magical photos, and the chance to chat with the Berber inhabitants still present.

Traditional Berber lunch included at a restaurant in Chenini with panoramic views. Return journey to Djerba/Zarzis with panoramic photo stops as you wish (on private excursions). No deposit on private tours, or immediate payment on group tours via PayPal/secure link.

🍽 Dietary preferences on request

Berber lunch is included. For travellers with specific dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, strict halal, allergies), please contact us in advance via WhatsApp or email so we can adapt the menu with our local chefs.

Frequently asked questions

🔥 The £45/person promo, until when?
Until 30 June inclusive. This exceptional promotion applies to the shared 4x4 group formula (max 7 pax in the vehicle). It's 18% cheaper than the normal rate (£55) and the most affordable entrance fee in southern Tunisia. Immediate booking via secure PayPal or link to secure your place.
Why this excursion rather than Ksar Ghilane?
This day focuses on Berber architectural heritage (fortified ksours, perched villages, historic mosque). If you prefer pure desert experience (oasis, hot spring, dunes), choose our Sahara 1 day Ksar Ghilane via Matmata instead. To combine both in 1 day, see the Sahara 1 day Ksar Ghilane via Tataouine combo.
How does payment work depending on my formula?
Group formula (£45/person on promo): payment at booking via secure PayPal or payment link sent by email. This secures your place in the shared 4x4. Free cancellation up to 48 hours before.

Private formula (4x4 / mini-minibus): no deposit required. You pay the driver on the day of your choice: cash (€/TND), card, PayPal, bank transfer, crypto. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
Do we go via the Jorf ferry?
No, we take the El Kantara Roman causeway. This is the historic 7 km route linking Djerba to mainland Tunisia, built by the Romans in the 3rd century. Advantages: faster (no waiting like at the ferry), more picturesque (panoramic views over the lagoon and pink flamingos).
Can we add Sidi Driss (Star Wars set) to this excursion?
Yes! For +£15/person (group) or +£50/vehicle (private), we add a detour via Matmata + Sidi Driss on the return. Specify at booking. The programme then extends to 11 hours door-to-door (instead of 10 hours).
Is the excursion suitable for families with children?
Yes, from age 4 onwards. Children love climbing in the ksours (narrow spaces, stone staircases — Indiana Jones vibes). Children discounts: −40% from 4 to 11 years old, free under 4 years. The pace is gentler than desert excursions (less driving, more stops).
Are all meals and entrance fees really included?
Yes, 100%. Meals included: traditional Berber lunch at Chenini with panoramic views. Entrance fees included: Ksar Ouled Soltane, Mosque of the Seven Sleepers at Chenini. Fresh mineral water provided throughout the excursion. No extra costs.
What should I bring?
Essential: closed-toe shoes (stone staircases, uneven ground), long trousers, sunglasses, sun cream, hat or chèche, ID documents. Recommended: camera, power bank, small rucksack, extra water (we provide but the air is dry).
What's the best season?
October to April = ideal season (warm days 18-25 °C, magical photos). May-June and September = very good (manageable heat, shade in the ksours). July-August = possible but early departure at 6h30 (heat 35-40 °C). Avoid Fridays (prayer day → Mosque of the Seven Sleepers closed to visits before 2 pm).
Is there network coverage in the Berber villages?
In Tataouine and Médenine: 4G everywhere. In Chenini: light 3G/4G coverage, good enough for WhatsApp. During the climb to Chenini: temporary no-signal zone (~5 min without network).
