Chebika (Ad Speculum antique) was a Roman watchtower in the 4th century, on the route linking Tozeur to Capsa. The natural spring attracted caravans. Under Islam, a small Berber village developed at the foot of the cliff. Catastrophic floods in 1969: village abandoned, inhabitants relocated to the plains. Today, a major tourist site in the Tunisian Sahara.
